Sir Alex Ferguson in Intensive Care After Suffering Brain Haemorrhage

Yesterday, the 5th of May, Sir Alex Ferguson was rushed to hospital after falling in his Cheshire-home yesterday, due to a brain haemorrhage.

The 76 year-old underwent emergency surgery and is currently still in hospital, recovering in the intensive care unit at the Salford Royal Hospital. The news broke out after the Manchester United official twitter page released a statement updating its followers on their iconic former manager’s health.

The club wrote: ‘Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone surgery today for a brain haemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to aid his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter. Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes. ‘We will keep Sir Alex and his loved ones in our thoughts during this time, and we are united in our wish to see him make a comfortable, speedy recovery.’

Ferguson’s family are very pleased with how the procedure went, and are confident that Sir Alex will soon be able to make a full recovery.

The news came as a shock to the whole footballing world, as only last week was Ferguson in attendance at Old Trafford, watching his beloved Manchester United beat rivals Arsenal 2-1 in an exciting match.

Many of those who he impacted, ranging from hundreds of players to millions of fans, sent messages of love and support to Ferguson in the hope that he may return to good health in the near future. Cristiano Ronaldo, the world’s leading player and a player who Ferguson to thank for setting up his illustrious career, showed his support on instagram with a photo of them both from the time when Sir Alex was still nurturing Ronaldo.

With cases such brain haemorrhages, Ferguson will have to remain in intensive care indefinitely under the monitoring of doctors, who will assess when Ferguson may be able to be dismissed from hospital, however the signs are positive and doctor’s believe it should not be too long before he is able to return home.

The football icon, who won 38 titles in just 26 years while in charge of arguably the sport’s biggest club, Manchester United, will remain a legend for many years to come in the future, however fans across the globe believe that his passing would be one of the biggest losses in the game for years and it is relieving to all that the surgery was a success. Ferguson may not be done yet, and it may be fair to say he is just entering the ‘Fergie time’ stage of his life.
